‍Start early (or arrive late)

The Logan Pass parking lot fills up quickly in the summer. Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to avoid the biggest crowds and have the best chance of finding parking.

Best times to drive Sun Road

  • ‍ Before 8 am

  • After 4 p.m.

‍Use the glacier shuttle

‍The Glacier shuttle is still one of the best options if you don’t want to deal with the stress of parking or if Logan Pass fills up. NPS notes that reservations are not necessary to use the park shuttle.

‍Dress in layers

‍Even in summer, conditions can change quickly. Logan Pass can be cold and windy, especially early and late in the day.

‍Bear Safety

If you go on a hike, take with you bear sprayMake noise on the road and be especially alert in less crowded areas like Two Medicine. The glacier is both black bear and grizzly bear country.

Vehicle size limits

If you drive a larger vehicle, please note that some parts of Going-to-the-Sun Road have strict size restrictions. Recreation.gov notes that vehicles over 21 feet or wider than 8 feet including mirrors are prohibited in certain sections.
